Bulldogs Thrash Wounded Jags
10/6/02

Alabama A&M went to Indianapolis to face Southern in the circle city classic. The Bulldogs played harder and the score reflects that. The Bulldogs stepped on the Jags in a 27-11 win.

''We decided Southern wasn't going to beat us this year,'' A&M defensive end Robert Mathis said.

After jumping to a 20-7 lead at half time, the Bulldogs defense  would bend but not break during the second half keeping the Jags out of the endzone during drives that ended at the 11, 1 and 11- yard line.

''We bend but we don't break,'' said inside linebacker Travoris Nunn. ''They got in the red zone three or four times and we stopped them every time.''

"We made some mistakes, and it cost us," Richardson said. "We had an opportunity to put some points on the board,"

A&M and Southern started this season with problems at the quarterback position but only one team has resolved the problems. Southern Started the game with it’s third starting quarterback this year and got the same result. The Jags have to win rest of their games in order to dodge the losing season bullet they have been able dodge since head coach Pete Richardson has been at the helm. That stretch includes Alcorn State and Grambling. If you’re a Jags fan don’t hold your breath on not having a losing season.
