Grambling to Focus on McNesse St.
8/20/02

Grambling moved towards preparing for the opening game against McNesse State on Monday. The game puts the two top 25 teams to battle early in the season.

"It looks like it sets up a pretty good opening game for both teams," GSU head coach Doug Williams said. "But it's not like we're really looking at the polls, especially right now. Those are for the fans and the media. We're just trying to find a way to win games."

When asked about the what the team was working on this week Williams responded, "It's game time now," Williams said. "We're working on preparing for McNeese and what we might see from them. They're a good team that has played very well in recent years. They were in the National Championship game few years ago and it seems like they're always in the playoffs. We've got our work cut out for us."

While preparing for the first game Williams still has to fill some holes that were left by graduating seniors last year.

"Right now we're still uncertain about a number of positions," Williams said. "That's because we're so young and because we've had a lot of guys out with nagging injuries or because of illness. Hopefully by the end of the week we'll know more about how all that is going to shape up."
