Is This the Key Ingredient for the
Jags? The tight end only caught one pass last year. Let that sink in a little bit and think of the missed opportunities the Jags missed not using a tight end. The tight end position is the most versatile position on the offense. It's basically an extra offensive lineman that can catch a pass. This will cut down on sacks and QB pressure with the tight end in the formation. Converted wide out Adam Nelson is new at the position. The first thing he has to get used to is blocking a down lineman. Nelson said "It's like being a receiver, but you're doing more blocking, with heavier guys on the opposing side. It's much easier blocking a guy weighing 165 than blocking a guy 285 for 10 plays." Offensive line coach Gary Smith comments on the ability of Nelson. "Ideally, you'd like a 6-5, 260 but he's strong and quick. And quickness and strength make up for a lot of the weight he doesn't have." It remains to be seen if the tight end can bring the Jags back to the championship game. It is one area to look for during their first game against Tulane in The Big Easy Classic at New Orleans. |
