J-State Wins Sloppy Game

HOUSTON (AP) -- Kenneth Woodard's 11-yard interception return capped a 22-point outburst in the fourth quarter for Jackson State, which beat Texas Southern 29-5 on Saturday night.

Texas Southern took a 5-0 lead in the first quarter on Mike Berry's safety and DJavan Conway's 40-yard field goal.

Still trailing 5-0 in the third, Jimmy Oliver's 6-yard run in the third gave Jackson State its first lead, 7-5.

Kristopher White of Jackson State recovered a fumble for another touchdown in the fourth before Jamal Pittman's 3-yard touchdown run and Woodard's interception for the final margin.

Oliver had 87 yards on 14 carries. Erik Haw ran 23 times for 82 yards for Jackson State (3-1, 2-0 Southwestern Athletic).

Brent Wilson rushed 15 times for 45 yards for Texas Southern (2-3, 2-2).
