JSU Gets Comeback Win in OT

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Eric Perri's 22-yard field goal in the second overtime lifted Jackson State to a 31-28 victory over Southern University on Saturday.

Jackson State (5-1, 4-0 Southwestern Athletic conference) overcame a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter and ended a three-game losing streak to Southern.

Southern took a 14-7 lead at the half on two blocked punts, which led to C.J. Byrd passing for one score and running for another.

Southern (3-4,2-3) led 28-14 after the third quarter.

Eric Haw scored on two short touchdown runs to tie the game at 28-28 with 3:47 left.

Southern kicker Breck Ackley missed a 36-yard field goal attempt in the first overtime and the Jaguars mishandled the hold on another attempt in the second overtime.

Jackson State, the only unbeaten team in the conference, finish with 433 yards of offense.

Jimmy Oliver passed for 224 yards and two touchdowns, both to Jaymar Johnson, who had 199 yards receiving.
