By MVSU Sports Information

Itta Bena, MS - With the accomplishments of the 2005 football season still fresh in mind the Mississippi Valley State Athletics Department announces its 2006 football schedule today.

The Delta Devils will once again open their season in Chicago, IL and face the Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on September 2nd in the Chicago Football Classic.  They will remain on the road the following week when they travel to Baton Rouge, LA to take on Southern University, September 9th.  Valley will return home September 16th and host Alabama A&M in their home opener, before traveling to Jackson, MS to play Jackson State on September 23rd.

The Delta Devils will finish off the month of September in a first time meeting with Concordia College on September 30th.  This will be tabbed Family, Community, High School and Take-A-Kid-to-the-Game Day.

The month of October will find the Delta Devils hosting defending Southwestern Athletic Conference champions Grambling State on October 7th.  They will then hit the road and travel to Fargo, ND to face for first time North Dakota State on October 14th.

"We're pleased with the composition of our football schedule for 2006," said MVSU Director of Athletics Lonza Hardy Jr.  "In addition to our traditional SWAC opponents, we've added two new opponents in North Dakota State and Concordia College.  Both of those games should add to the excitement of a season which should be challenging and rewarding.”

The Delta Devils will remain on the road and travel to Houston, Tex. on October 21st to face Texas Southern, before playing host to Prairie View A&M on October 28th for Homecoming 2006.

Valley will bring in the month of November at home when they welcome Alcorn State to town on November 4th for Hall of Fame Day.  They will then wrap up regular season play traveling to Montgomery, AL to play Alabama State on November 11th.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship game will be played on December 9th in Birmingham's Legion Field.

"We anticipate kicking off our season ticket campaign in May," added Hardy.  "With the high expectations everyone has for this year's team, we believe our fan base will increase significantly.  It should be a great season all around for us."
