Panthers Beat TSU For Second Straight
Prairie View A&M 30, Texas Southern 27

The Tigers scored 13 points in the final period to take the lead 27-23, but Prairie View’s Arnell Fontenot scored on a nine-yard run with just under three minutes to play to give the Panthers a 30-27 win.  PVAM’s Mario Sanchez kept the Panthers in contention with three made field goals.  Texas Southern quarterback Darnell Lovett led the scoring drives that gave Texas Southern the lead in the final period as he found Brent Wilson for a 20-yard strike and then scored on a eight-yard run for the Tigers’ four-point lead in the fourth quarter.  However Prairie View, led by Fontenot’s 38 yards rushing on the drive, found a way to win in the end.
 
Prairie View’s Fontenot led all players with 25 carries for 173 yards and a score.  Joe Townsend caught two passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.  Van Sallier and Corey Barrett each had seven tackles in the game for the Panthers.
 
Texas Southern’s Brent Wilson had 26 carries for 114 yards and a score.  He eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark on the season, the first Texas Southern runner since Thomas Sieh in 1998 to reach the plateau.  Darnell Lovett completed 12-of-30 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns and added another score on the ground. Edwin James led the defense with 15 total tackles (seven solo) while Robert Napier had 13 tackles and a QB hurry.
