Tough Stretch for A&M
10/18/02

Alabama A&M will start their second season this weekend against Mississippi Valley State. Valley is the start of a five game conference streak to close out the season.  The Bulldogs are 2-0 in conference play and hold all the cards in the East.  The Bulldogs tendency to play to their competition worries head coach Anthony Jones, so he issued challenge to his team.

''Coach Jones challenged all of us to pick up our game because we're about to go down a stretch that isn't going to be easy,'' quarterback Johnny Keith said. ''The teams we've been playing haven't had winning records.

The teams A&M has beaten only five wins combined. The five game stretch includes Alabama State, Jackson State, and Alcorn State. If A&M beats all of these teams then would be the favorite in the SWAC championship game against most likely Grambling even though they lost to them early in the year.

''We're getting ready to play some tough teams and if we make mistakes, we might not get the breaks that we've been getting'' said Keith.
