Upset at the River City Classic
9/8/02

Alabama State came into Chattanooga with cards stacked against them. They only had one quarterback with Jermaine Crenshaw out due to kidney stones. Gary Brashears came in and performed very well. Brashears complted 24-for-39 with no interceptions.

“We only had one quarterback. If he had gotten into trouble early it could’ve been a long day for us” coach L.C. Cole said.

The Hornets took advantage of the early turnovers by Tenn. Chatt. The Hornets forced UTC to turn the ball over five times to insure no way of making a comeback.

“You can’t turn the ball over five times and beat a decent team,” UTC head coach Donnie Kirkpatrick said. “This was a good football team that we played today so that certainly won’t work.”
