2003 Yearly Awards Player of the Year: Quincy Richard Southern fans have watched Richard mature as a player with the Jags. Richard has came a long way since losing a redshirt year for a two play performance during the '99 Bayou Classic. Most players would throw a fit and quit the team, but Quincy kept quiet. He would then be told he sat out the next year and redshirt again. That would mean that he would sit out for two years with no chance of playing. After sitting out two years Richard wasn't the best quarterback have under center. Many fans grumble at Richard's play during the 2001 and first have of the 2002 season. The second half of the 2002 season is when offense coordinator David Oliver found a running game to take pressure off Richard for making plays. What followed was a 17 -1 record for Richard over a 18 game span. Now the fans of the SWAC have rewarded Richard for his hard work and toughness. Richard's never say die attitude is what makes him this years Player of the Year. Congratulations Quincy Richard Coach of the Year: Pete Richardson Southern has always won with it's coaching. Richardson makes a winner with the team he has at the beginning of camp. Give this a thought. Richardson won the SWAC championship with a new defense coordinator and a quarterback that nobody said could lead them to a championship. Richardson lead this team through the injuries of the season to the SWAC title and that is the trademark of Pete Richardson. The fans have made it clear that Richardson's hard work is what makes him this year's Coach of the Year. Congratulations Pete Richardson
