    SWAC Championship Events

    The 2018 Toyota Southwestern Athletic Conference Football Championship Game will be hosted on campus of the highest ranked team in the conference. The winner of the East and West Divisions will leave it all out on the field to add another illustrious chapter in the history books to determine the champions on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 3:30 p.m. CT. Last season, Grambling State claimed its second consecutive title by staving off a furious second half comeback attempt by Alcorn State 40-32.

     

    There will be special events around the football championship weekend starting with its annual SWAC Hall of Fame reception on Friday, Nov. 30 from the Sheraton in downtown Birmingham. Alcorn State’s Dave Washington, Jr., Alabama State's Larry Watkins, Grambling State's Ralph A. Garr, Sr., Jackson State’s Eric Strothers, Prairie View A&M's Nathaniel Gross, Southern's Roger Cador, and longtime league administrator Lonza Hardy will be enshrined into the Class of 2018.

     

    On game day, the annual SWAC Battle of the Bands, featuring performances from the respective division winners, culminates with crowd-pleasing entertainment at halftime. Marching bands have a rich tradition being a centerpiece of pride and school spirit for each institution in the conference. Furthermore, the competitiveness, prestige, visibility, pageantry, and showmanship of SWAC marching bands significantly add to the unique identity and culture of the conference.

     

    The much renowned bands of the SWAC include: Ocean of Soul (Texas Southern), Human Jukebox (Southern), Sonic Boom of the South (Jackson State), Mighty Marching Hornets (Alabama State), Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South (Arkansas-Pine Bluff), Sounds of Dyn-O-Mites (Alcorn State), “World-Famed” Tiger Marching Band (Grambling State), Marching Storm (Prairie View A&M), Marching Maroon and White (Alabama A&M), and the Mean Green Marching Machine (Mississippi Valley State).

     

    Tickets range from $15 - $20 (plus applicable ticket fees) and an increase of $5 on the day of game.

     

    The champion will earn the conference title and a berth to play in the fourth annual Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 15 from the home of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. on ABC at 11 a.m.
